	AltaVista
	AltaVista is one of the largest search engines and a favorite among researchers, with a comprehensive coverage and a wide range of power searching commands.
	AOL.com
	This is an "external" version of AOL's search engine, and is for non-AOL members. It only searches the web, but does not search AOL's own content.
	Ask Jeeves
	Ask Jeeves search engine service that attempts to answer your question as precisely as possible. If a match isn't found within its own database, it will provide matching web pages from various other search engines.
	Excite
	The Excite search engine offers a fairly large index and integrates non-web material at times such as information on companies and sports scores.
	HotBot
	HotBot is a favorite among researchers, students and business professionals. It also offers very flexible and easy-to-use search features.
	Lycos
	Lycos derives its listing from the Open Directory Project, and its secondary results coming from either Direct Hit or Lycos' own spidering of the web. Lycos also owns the HotBot search service, and continues to run HotBot as a separate service.
	MSN
	Microsoft's MSN search engine is a LookSmart-powered directory of websites, with additional secondary results coming from Inktomi. Direct Hit and RealNames results are also made available to users. MSN also offers users of Internet Explorer a unique way to save past searches.

	The oldest of the major website directories, Yahoo has over one-million sites listed in its own database. Easily the most popular search engine, it has earned the reputation for helping people find information easily.
